This class serves as a general introduction to the vast craft that is Millinery. During this two-day workshop, students learn how to steam and block one felt and one straw shape on vintage hat blocks, sew in head-sizes and apply trim using millinery sewing techniques.
Friday: 12pm-4pm & Saturday: 11am-5pm
Techniques covered
- Standard Blocking and shaping on wooden millinery blocks
- Basic millinery related stitches
- Measuring headsizes and custom fitting hats
- Embellishing with decorative ribbon

Dayna Pinkham, owner of Pinkham Millinery, has been studying the art of hat making since 1982. For the past 20 years the Millinery has been a cornerstone of the Portland fashion community and the downtown arts scene. Her clientele spans internationally, with her designs gracing wedding ceremonies and special events across the nation and throughout Europe, from Great Britain's Royal Ascot to the Kentucky Derby.
